Redirect to Affiliate Link or Your Own Landing Page with the Affiliate's Ad?
« on: February 10, 2007, 07:04:23 AM »

i read somewhere in the past threads that it is better to redirect your visitors to your own landing page that show your affiliate's ads than to redirect them immediately to your affiliate link.

now why is that so?

thanks!

one reason is so you can capture emails.
also youcan track the hits and referres.
another is to clean up your traffic so the merchant dosent know where its coming from.
another is to give you options.

if you setup a load of freehost and spam a load of links pointing to the merchant and they change the offer or discontinue the product you wont have to run round changing thousands of links.
just change the copy or offers on the landing page.

unless your redirects are from 1 single landing page
or your links are generated on the fly from a central DB.

my opinion is less clicks or choices, the better. landing the user on a banner page gives them the moment to change their mind.
dumping them straight onto the site they might have been looking for i think is better. but im sure both ways probably end up working about the same.

I redirect to a landing page first for two reasons:

- reduces chances of getting banned by the sponsor and stops all the unintentional clicks from getting to the merchant (ie. people not referred from serps, but who click through to your site from blog comments etc).

- you can advertise more than one product per niche and let the surfer comparison shop!  Yes you will get a lower proportion of surfers going to your primary offer, but you increase your overall CTR by advertising multiple things and getting multiple clicks out of the surfer.
